CT Children's Medical Center

I had the honor of photographing some behind the scenes shots at CT Children's Medical Center in Hartford a couple of weeks ago. It was an emotional day to say the least. It was educational, challenging from a photographic standpoint, but above all it was inspirational. Not just because of the amazingly talented doctors and staff, who I am convinced perform miracles everyday. But it was the bond that you see between the patients, their families and the CT Children's staff that really impressed me. The amount of positive energy and spirit within those walls could fuel a small town (now if we could only harness that into some kind of green energy...), but I digress. The following is a short slideshow of my favorite images from my day at CT Children's Medical Center. Enjoy...

Mike & Ellen: 8.7.09

My assistant, Sue, and I had the pleasure of photographing Mike and Ellen's wedding on a gorgeous day in August at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville, CT. It was, well...picture perfect. Here's some of my favorites! Enjoy!

3 Lovely Ladies

My assistant, Ashley, and I had the pleasure of photographing three beautiful ladies last holiday weekend down in Westerly, RI...a daughter, mother and grandmother (or Mimi, as she is lovingly referred to). We shot at Wilcox Park (I think that is the name of it) in downtown Westerly. I could've shot there for hours. We had so much fun. Here are some of my favs:

We ran into this brave, little squirrel who actually followed us. Don't worry, he wasn't foaming at the mouth or anything. But when he realized that we weren't going to throw him any food, he left.

We ran into this fella and his owners while walking through the park. I am a sucker for boxers and couldn't resist snapping a few shots of this handsome guy.

Molly & Darin's Beantown Wedding

For those of you who can't remember what it was like to have a day without rain, let me remind you that May 30, 2009 was a gorgeous day here in the Northeast. It was the perfect day to get married. Molly and Darin were married in Winchester, MA with a reception that followed at the Seaport Hotel in Boston (which by the way was amazing). Here's some of my favorites from the day.

Chris & Erin's Wedding

It really is a small world! I met Chris and Erin for their wedding consultation back in early 2008. Erin had been referred to me by one of my brides, who is also Erin's co-worker. So, we met to go over my services, packages, etc. As we are talking, Chris says, "Are you related to Dave Fiereck?" I said, "Yes, he's my husband." Turns out, Chris and Dave went to elementary school together and played soccer together. I am always meeting new people and reconnecting with others through my job. It is a reminder of how interconneted we all really are. Anyways, Chris and Erin tied the knot on 5.16.09. It was a beautiful day and they were a wonderful couple to work with. And the wedding party was a fun group, too! Congratulations to Chris & Erin!

Mike & Janet (and Rocky and Casey, too)

Mike and Janet are tying the knot this August. We photographed their engagement session at Wickham Park in Manchester (one of my favorite places to shoot). They brought along their two dogs, Rocky and Casey. We went on a weekday in the morning, so the park was pretty quiet and the two pups could run around. It was pretty cloudy, which was nice for portraits. Check out more of my favorites on J. Fiereck Photography's Facebook page.

I Love Love!

This blog entry is dedicated to my husband, Dave...my rock, my best friend, my favorite everything.

So, I photographed a beautiful young couple, Elder and Tara, for their engagement session recently. We just walked around the streets of New Haven, starting at St. Mary's where they are getting married in October, and captured some pretty sweet moments for them. I just love seeing two people so in love. This makes my job incredibly easy, because they really didn't need much direction at all. My husband, Dave, and I celebrate our 6 year anniversary this month and it reminds me how amazingly blessed I am to have found my soul mate.

Here's some of my favorites from Elder and Tara's session. I love love! :)

Cousins: Grace & Ella

I photographed my friend's daughter and her little cousin at Williams park in Glastonbury. One of my favorite places to photograph kids because the playground is nice and shaded. Here's some of my favorites. Enjoy!

A Place Like No Other: CT Children's Medical Center

One of the things I love most about being a photographer is that I am afforded the opportunity to meet so many new people and visit some pretty cool places. So, while I am providing a service to my clients, they are also providing me with some incredibly, inspiring learning experiences. Case in point...Yesterday, I did a photo shoot for the CT Children's Medical Center in Hartford.

I photographed a portrait of Dr. Christopher Carroll in the PICU, otherwise known as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (Imagine calling a special place like this your office?). Then it was off to get some candids of the staff working with patients, where I met "Kevin," a handsome young man who was at CT Children's for an outpatient visit. We hit it off, as you can tell by his message on the Etch-a-Sketch thingy...

Business Champs Breakfast

I covered the 2009 Business Champions Breakfast yesterday for the Hartford Business Journal at the CT Convention Center. Great event, great venue and impressive companies who are doing some pretty great things, despite this economy. Hats off to the winners. Check out more images from the event on the J. Fiereck Facebook page.

Engagement Session at Gillette Castle: Mark & Sara

I really enjoyed capturing some moments for Mark and Sara at Gillette Castle for their engagement session. The weather was gorgeous and we went at the end of the day, when the park was quiet and serene. The happy couple ties the knot in September (on my birthday, actually). Looking forward to celebrating and capturing their big day, too! :) Here's my top pic(k)s from the engagement session.

Davey & Mary

I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful, young family at Wickham Park last weekend. The two little ones, Davey and Mary, were precious. Davey was especially intrigued by my fisheye lens (as you'll see at the end of the video below). Here's my favorite pic(k)s from our shoot...Enjoy.

Oh, Deer!

On my way home from an engagement session at Gillette Castle on Monday, I stopped along a country road to get a few shots of some deer grazing.

They were a little concerned at first, and didn't move for about 60 seconds before they went back to eating. I was probably about 50 yards away. I thought for sure I was going to scare them away when I opened up the back hatch of my car to get my camera. But they seemed content.

Until all of a sudden, I heard what sounded like a stampede of buffalo (maybe I'm exaggerating a little), come from the other side of the clearing. And three more deer came running out of the woods, jumped the stone wall that I was standing behind and ran into the woods. I'm not gonna lie. I was a little freaked out because, I have never been that close (about 15 yards) to a deer that is running full speed ahead.

I was able to get just one somewhat clear shot of one of them running into the woods. Imagine having to tell people that you got hit by a deer, but it wasn't while you were driving?

That pretty much concluded my brush with the great outdoors on Monday. After that, the two deer in the clearing trotted off.

Jacob & Mitchell

Meet Jacob and Mitchell.

Two of the cutest kids ever (they also happen to be my nephews), but so what if I'm biased. You have to admit, they are pretty darn cute! We went to Wickham Park on Tuesday and just followed them on their adventure. They were finding something new everywhere we turned, so when you're photographing kids...you gotta be quick! :) Enjoy!
